Planning ahead is extremely important when we want to achieve a goal—we need to make sure we have vegetables in the fridge in order to make lunches, we need to have tennis shoes in the car to exercise at the gym after work, we need to be relaxed with our mind at ease in order to sleep, and the list can go on and on…..
There are so many things that we should do. Don’t think about all those ‘shoulds’ instead focus on what YOU ‘will’ do as these are the items that make a difference. Focus on what you are truly ready to tackle.
For New Years don’t feel like you have to be in the norm and choose exercise, choose what you truly need to overcome in order to be one step healthier within any of the four pillars: nutrition, sleep, exercise, and stress management!
A resolution explains something specific we will do or not do! So once we do the opposite we quit. I know I am tired of feeling like a failure…do you feel the same way? So this year instead of setting a resolution set an intention and make it last ALL year long because you are ready and willing to tackle it!
An intention is something we aim to achieve, a plan! Now doesn’t this make more sense when we need to incorporate planning ahead to establish a healthy lifestyle?
A few examples are:
- Spending more time socially with friends that doesn’t involve finding a babysitter. What happened is our friends started a monthly potluck, kids included! We loved seeing everyone and since they were on Mondays we loved starting the work week together.
- Setting boundaries. Realizing that work and obligations can’t overrun me and cause sleep deficit. So utilize stress releasing, age defying, pampering appointments to ensure time to myself.
- Speaking up even when the other person doesn’t want to hear it. Finding the right words in an appropriate tone during a challenging conversation.
For this new year, instead of setting a resolution to do for 1 month…set an intention. Plan an inspiring action and do it. You may do well for a while and then lapse backward but this doesn’t mean you have to quit. Assess what happened and then PLAN what you need to do to move forward!
