With full swing of winter upon us more and more people get colds, the flu, etc. Sickness seems to spread so easily. So orange you glad you are going to learn tricks to fight off the sickness?
A multi vitamin is a great prevention tool. In addition, have you ever used oil of oregano? Oregano, yes the herb is an antibacterial agent. Many people, including myself will put a drop in water and drink. But beware as oregano is hot! So if it is too hot for the taste buds you can also rub it on the bottom of your feet (the bottom of our feet are our largest pores so they provide quicker absorption then other exterior parts of our body). I like to think of vitamins and oils as an insurance plan. So taking these on a regular basis can help in keeping sickness at bay.
But once the sniffles start more vitamins are necessary!
- Nutrients to increase are Vitamin C, Zinc, & Echinacea. Teas are wonderful to warm the heart and soak right into the blood stream. You can find teas loaded with these nutrients to reduce symptoms. Anything you put into liquid provides quick absorption into the body just watch out for all the sugar added in to them to make a tastier drink.
- Foods to eat are leafy greens, oranges, bell peppers, strawberries, and papaya. Always eat the whole fruit not fruit juice since the fiber can move out the sickness.
- Watch the sodium! When we don’t feel well we ask for soup but beware of the sodium! Canned soups are packed with lots of salt which can further cause inflammation and dehydration. So dust off the crockpot and throw lots of fresh or frozen vegetables in with unsalted vegetable broth and dried herbs. The crockpot is low prep so you can let it cook while you go rest.
- Speaking of rest, get lots of it! A lot of times I get sick because my body is worn down from being on the go all the time. When I get sick, which doesn’t happen often, I know I have pushed my limits and need to add in more zzzz’s.
- Drink lots of water! Guzzle at least 64oz of pure water daily!
