Grab the Garlic!

Besides the downside of smelly breath, Garlic has great health benefits. It can be used in many ways, in multiple parts of our diets. For anyone who knows me, I waft with the smell of garlic whenever I am cooking! Fresh garlic has so much more flavor and health benefits than the jar garlic. Truly don’t waste your time with a jar and grab a bulb. Below are just a few of the many great things about garlic and steps to utilize it (you won’t regret grabbing it at the store this weekend!):

  • Garlic as medicine: Using garlic for medicinal reasons is not unheard of.
    • It treats bronchitis, tuberculosis, liver problems, intestinal problems, diabetes, and fevers.
  • Garlic is great for the heart. It prevents hypertension, heart disease, and heart attacks.
  • Garlic has been known to prevent many cancers. Consuming garlic can help you stay away from lung, prostate, breast, stomach, and colon cancers!
  • Garlic as an anti-bacterial: Prevents many bacterial and viral infections. It kills E. coli, and Salmonella.
  • On the surface: Garlic treats and prevents skin infections like ringworm and athlete’s foot.

Steps to Use Fresh Garlic:

1) Buy a bulb

2) Smash the bulb with a knife to get all the cloves. Then smash each individual clove and throw in a food processor.

3) Mix a tsp or so into anything.

Steps to Roast Garlic (this allows the bite of garlic to disappear and can actually make it sweet):

1) Buy a bulb

2) Chop off the pointed end so cloves are showing

3) Put in an over set to broil at 350 degrees for 20 min or so

4) Squeeze out the cloves into a dish.

  • Try it in salad dressing. Adding minced fresh garlic to your homemade salad dressings will add flavor and increase its healthiness. Put olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and pepper together to create the perfect and healthy dressing.
  • Mix it with other vegetables. Try using it with your favorite vegetables like green beans, guacamole, or salsa. Garlic adds tons of flavor.
  • Add it to soup. Garlic can be incorporated into most soups.
  • Spaghetti sauce- Add it to your homemade spaghetti sauces for extra flavor.
  • Garlic with meats. Garlic goes well with chicken and turkey and is a healthy way to marinate.
  • Pasta! Garlic is GREAT with pasta and with pasta sauces.
