“If Only….”

Have you ever thought about how many times you say “if only….”? You fill in the blank with the rest.

“If only I lose 20lbs. I will be happy.”

If only I can fit into those jeans again, my husband will find me attractive.”

If only – if only – if only, these “if onlys” make our desires and dreams so far reaching. These sorts of statements make us feel inferior. If we feel inferior we lose our confidence to actually make the change we want!

If only I could…

So stop thinking “if only…” and act with what you can control. You can control your mind to stop expending negative self-talk and instead change it into a positive. “I will control my hands to feed my body four cups of vegetables today.”

These are the actions in the here and now that change how you are today. When you focus on your actions which you can control, you no longer dream about what life could be like and instead turn your dreams into reality. You create happiness and health right now in the present moment. This is the feeling that continues action-oriented change toward health even when we find it most challenging.
