Did You Feel Refreshed this Morning When You Woke Up?
Do you feel you have trouble concentrating? Do you feel forgetful? Do you feel irritable? If you answered yes to any one of these, how many hours of sleep did you get in the past four nights?
Sleep is such an important aspect of our lives…however, if we have too much going on or are very stressed, sleep is one thing that is bypassed or becomes restless. So let’s discuss why you need to focus on improving your nighttime routine.
Sleep provides a fresh start to any sort of stressors that happened the day prior. It is like hitting a reset button! It increases energy (along with water & nutrients!). Data has shown that lack of sleep results in moving slower, making bad decisions, and less memory retention. Yes, learning may be improved as we sleep. “Scientists are discovering that we learn and make connections more effectively when we are asleep than we do when we are awake” (Wellbeing: 5 Essential Elements).
Sleep is important not just for the day ahead but for organizing the information from the day before. So how much should we focus on? 7-8 hours is the recommended amount. Short (5-6 hrs.) or Long (9-10 hrs.) durations can cause health problems like weight gain, common colds, increased appetite, and/or hormonal imbalance. I know you don’t want this!
So how will you ‘let go’ of the daily stressors for 8 hours to start snoozing?
