Cut out the Easter Candy....or should I say all the candy! Sugar truly is a booger. It causes us to crave more and more sugar. Artificial sugars can actually be more detrimental to the body's health than cane sugar. Keep reading to learn why artificial sugars should be avoided and tips to improve your sweetness!
Now that we have begun the month of April, spring breaks and spring showers have arrived! This means grass will turn green, flowers will bloom, and cleaning will be put on the to-do list. However, spring rains can slide any healthy routine into mud! Here are several strategies to make the sun shining within your daily actions to be most productive.
•Make a list. Write down the items you want to accomplish throughout this spring to clean your environment and become more organized. Choose the best method to write it down and continually see it: phone, journal, or paper stuck to the fridge. I can only remember something if I handwrite it so you will see my notebook full of lists I want to achieve.
Did you know April has a national beer day? I was very surprised that there is a holiday to celebrate this cold drink. But then it got me thinking….alcohol is part of socializing. Typically, when people think about losing weight or achieving health they feel alcohol must be eliminated. However, if you hope to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle, socializing is a must! Socializing with friends and family is a great stress releaser so it can never be omitted. Instead, let’s ReTHINK the Way You DRINK!

When I need a small but sweet meal, I grab dried fruit and nut butter. I love it as it provides a twist to the typical fresh fruit and nut butter! A fig with almond butter smeared on top provides a dessert like feel with a nutrient punch.
When we think about Easter, chocolate bunnies and gooey, sugary Peeps come to mind. Easter is a dream come true for anyone with a sweet tooth and a nightmare for people trying to watch their waistline! But you can enjoy this festive celebration without abandoning your HEALTH. All it takes is a little planning.
What do you typically crave? Do you give in or simmer because you are frustrated? For me, I crave chocolate. I could seriously eat chocolate every day....but I don't. The more I eat it the more I want it.
Instead of always feeling like willpower is nonexistent focus on straightforward approaches. Prep yourself to be ready to go, so that you don’t even have to think about it. When we are organized and prepared HEALTH is able to be achieved and easily maintained. Follow these strategies to crack your cravings.
Sometimes in the evening I really want rice with my stir-fry! Stir fry is a quick and easy go-to for my family. However, the heavy carbs in the evening do not allow me to sleep well. So, I figured out a new approach that is the same texture as rice and a lot lower in carbohydrates which allows me to sleep soundly (for more tips on sleeping, be sure to check out this blog post). Try cauliflower rice as your stir-fry bed this week.
How to make cauliflower rice:
Have I told you lately I LOVE Sweets! Yes, I am a nutritionist and love to eat chocolate. I think it so tasty until it shows up on my hips! Most of the time there is not really any nutritional value in sweets; instead they are filled with refined sugar, white flour, etc. So instead of telling yourself you will never eat them again (this just isn’t lifestyle possible!) bake sweets that are smarter for your health. Read the tips below to improve your baking basics.
When it comes to the afternoon, we are tired and need a quick energy boost. This is the typical vending machine time! However, if we can create a mindless mini meal ready to grab we won't be searching for those quarters. So on a regular basis I will be posting easy mindless meals....notice I do not say snacks! I say meals because when we think of a meal we think of something whole. When we typically say snack we think of processed. These ideas are going to be low prep and easy reach for a satisfying energy boost. Enjoy!
