This past Sunday when I asked the boys what they wanted for dinner, Keenan said Batman! I think he wanted me to say "I can't." But instead I got creative! We were having friends over that evening so I had to ask myself what would feed a group easily? My answer: Breakfast for Dinner! I chopping vegetables for omelets, mixed together a large bowl of eggs, and set out the cheese. I then stirred together the batter for Pumpkin Pancakes. Ben and Keenan love it when we have a taco bar. In fact, our friends do as well. Tuesdays have turned into a typical night when friends come over for a healthy dinner. So instead of a typical taco bar for this particular Tuesday, I twisted it up by having them make quesadillas! Simple, tasty, and fun…it was a big hit.
Have you ever reflected back on your day and couldn’t remember all that you ate? Or have you ever completed a meal and then beat yourself up for eating too much or overindulging? It happens—sometimes we mindlessly grab handfuls of this or that throughout the day, take too many tastings while preparing a meal for our family, or finish off our children’s’ dinner scraps. Therefore, we have lost count of all of the calories that we consume which often leads to unwanted weight gain instead maintaining progress within our health related goals. So “how do I stop this routine” you ask?
The sun is shining and baseball is in full swing. We were asked by a local business to attend a Tin Caps game for dinner. Ben and I haven’t been to a Tin Caps game in years so thought it would be a fun event to attend. Since dinner would be served, most likely a baseball favorite like hot dogs and hamburgers, I knew I needed to have a plan.
We have all heard all the media hype about how sugar is bad…because it contributes to obesity and a number of other health issues…this isn’t new news. Yes, a lot of sugar can do serious damage to our bodies and is found in just about every bag, box, jar or can of food we buy. But what the media is not spending much time explaining is the importance of fiber.
Yes 4-H fairs are fast approaching & I would love for you to visit our friends & neighbors who take part in it….but do not let the fair wreak havoc on your HEALTHY progress! I commonly say moderation is key, however do not allow—especially in the summer when there are more weekends, birthdays, weddings, & yes the fairs--all the “special occasions” to become too plentiful. These occasions can become an excuse to why poor eating becomes regular habits. You are working daily on letting these fall by the wayside & inputting the healthy actions.
